코스타리카 공화국
 중앙아메리카에 있는 공화국으로 영세중립국이다.
북쪽으로는 니카라과, 남동쪽으로는 파나마와 국경을 접하며 서쪽으로는 태평양, 동쪽으로는 카리브 해와 접한다. 수도는 산호세이다. 나라 이름은 스페인어로 "풍요로운 해안"을 뜻한다.
식민지 시대에는 세계에서 가장 가난한 지역 중 하나였지만, 2차 세계대전 이후 '중미의 우등생'이라고 불리며, 19세기부터 커피, 바나나 수출과 정치의 안정이 맞물려 경제 성장이 지속되었다. 1960년대 이후 외자 도입으로 공업화를 진행, 농업국에서 공업국으로 탈바꿈하여 중미에서는 파나마 다음으로 부유한 국가가 되었다. 그러나, 1990년대 이후 남미 대륙의 마약이 북미와 유럽으로 건너가는 중계지역이자, 마약의 주요소비지가 되어, 치안악화와 사회 불안정이 심화되고 있다. 주요 수출품은 커피, 바나나, 사탕수수, 파인애플, 멜론 등 이다.

코스타리카는 군대를 폐지한 나라로 대신 코스타리카 공공부대가 국방을 수행하고 있다.

Costa Rica is a country in Central America, bordered by Nicaragua to the north, Panama to the southeast, the Pacific Ocean to the west, the Caribbean Sea to the east, and Ecuador to the south of Cocos Island. It has a population of around 4.9 million. in a land area of 51,060 square kilometers (19,714 square miles); over 300,000 live in the capital and largest city, San José] which had a population of an estimated 333,980 in 2015. Costa Rica has been known for its stable democracy, in a region that has had some instability, and for its highly educated workforce, most of whom speak English.[8] The country spends roughly 6.9% of its budget (2016) on education, compared to a global average of 4.4%. Its economy, once heavily dependent on agriculture, has diversified to include sectors such as finance, corporate services for foreign companies, pharmaceuticals, and ecotourism. Many foreign companies (manufacturing and services) operate in Costa Rica's free trade zones (FTZ) where they benefit from investment and tax incentives.

사토 마사히사 외무성 부 대신은 방일 중인 알렉산더 모라·코스타리카 공화국 무역 장관(H. E. Mr. Alexander Mora, Minister of Foreign Trade of the Republic of Costa Rica)와 회담한 내용
1.서두, 사토 부대신에서, 지난해에 이어모라 대신의 방일을 환영하는 동시에, 계속, 경제 분야를 중심으로 양자 관계의 강화에 힘쓰고 싶다는 말했다. 또, 일본 기업의 투자를 더욱 촉진하고 양국 간 경제 교류를 발전시키기 위해서, 일·코스타리카와의 사이에서 투자 협정의 예비 회담 개최를 준비하고 싶다고 말했다.
2. 이에 대한, 모라 대신으로부터, 코스타리카는, 지리적으로도, 일본 기업이 중미 지역뿐 아니라 북미와 중남미 지역에 전개하기 위한 거점으로 가능한 장소에 위치하고 있는 두 나라 경제 관계의 촉진 및 국제적인 자유 무역 체제 때문에, 앞으로도 양국 간 협력하고 싶다고 말했다.게다가, 일본과 투자 협정 협상을 개시하고 싶다는 의사 표명했다.

Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Masahisa Sato held the following summit meeting with Minister for International Trade Alexander Mora Costa Rica during his visit to Japan. At the outset, Senior Vice-Minister Sato welcomed Mora visit to Japan following last year's visit, and stated his intention to continue efforts to strengthen bilateral relations centering on economic fields. He also stated that Japan would like to coordinate with Costa Rica to hold preliminary consultations on investment agreements in order to further promote investment by Japanese companies and to develop economic exchanges between the two countries.
2. In response to this, Minister Mora said that Costa Rica will continue to promote bilateral economic relations and promote international free-trade arrangements, both geographically and among countries where Japanese companies can serve as bases for their expansion into North America and Latin America. Furthermore, he expressed his intention to begin negotiations with Japan for an investment agreement.
