시칠리아 팔레모 영웅 GOVANNI FALCONE

대부분 유럽은 가톨릭 교회가 명소다.

하지만 이번 시칠리아 여행에서 필자와 친구는 색다른  경험을 했다.

시칠리아는 마피아의 도시이며 대부의 영화 배경이기도 하다.

조반디 팔코네 묘지가 있는 가톨릭 교회 방문이 가장 인상적이었다.

 

조반니 팔코네(Giovanni Falcone, 1939년 5월 18일 - 1992년 5월 23일)는

 이탈리아의 판사이자 치안판사였다.
시칠리아 팔레르모에 있는 정의의 궁전에 있는 

그의 사무실에서 그는 시칠리아 마피아의 권력을

전복시키기 위해 직업 생활의 대부분을 보냈다.

1992년 5월 23일 1986-1987년 Maxi Trial에서 절정에 달하는

길고 뛰어난 경력을 쌓은 Falcone은 Capaci 마을 근처의 A29 고속도로에서

Capaci 폭격에서 Corleonesi Mafia에 의해 암살되었다.

그의 삶은 절친한 친구인 Paolo Borsellino의 삶과 유사하다.

둘 다 어린 시절을 팔레르모의 같은 동네에서 보냈다.

그들의 어린 시절 친구들은 마피아가 강한 환경에서 자랐지만

두 사람 모두 치안 판사로서 조직 범죄에 맞서 싸웠다.

둘 다 몇 달 간격으로 1992년에 살해되었다.

반마피아 재판에서 지칠 줄 모르는 노력과 희생을 인정받아

두 사람은 시민용맹 금메달과 천주교 순교자로 인정받았다.

타임지 2006년 11월 13일자에 지난 60년의 영웅으로 선정되기도 했다.

그와 같은 사람이 세상을 지키기에 여전히 아름다운 정신이 남는 것이다.

아무리 세상이 타락하고 비리가 있다해도 역시 휴머니즘만이 영원하다는 것

시슬리의 방문 중 인상적인 한 부분이다.

 was an Italian judge and prosecuting magistrate
From his office in the Palace of Justice in Palermo, Sicily, 

he spent most of his professional life trying to overthrow the power of the Sicilian Mafia.

 After a long and distinguished career, culminating in the Maxi Trial in 1986–1987, on 23 May 1992, Falcone was assassinated 

by the Corleonesi Mafia in the Capaci bombing, on the A29 motorway near the town of Capaci.

His life parallels that of his close friend Paolo Borsellino.

 They both spent their early years in the same neighbourhood in Palermo. 

Though many of their childhood friends grew up in an environment

 in which the Mafia had a strong presence, both men fought against organised crime

 as prosecuting magistrates.They were both killed in 1992, a few months apart. 

In recognition of their tireless effort and sacrifice during the anti-mafia trials, they were both awarded the Gold Medal for Civil Valor and were acknowledged 

as martyrs of the Catholic Church. 

They were also named as heroes of the last 60 years in the 13 November 

2006 issue of TimGiovanni Falcone (18 May 1939 – 23 May 1992)

彼らの幼なじみはマフィアの強い環境で育ったが、

二人とも判事として組織犯罪と戦った。二人は1992年に数カ月の違いで殺害された。

対マフィア裁判におけるたゆまぬ努力と犠牲が認められ、

二人はカトリックの殉教者として、

また民間の勇気に対する金メダルを授与された。 

2006 年 11 月 13 日には、タイム誌によって過去 60 年間の英雄にも選ばれました。
