스리랑카 페스티벌

스리랑카 민주사회주의 공화국는 남아시아에 있는 섬나라이며 법률상의 수도는 스리자야와르데네푸라코테이고, 제일 큰 도시는 콜롬보이다.1948년 영국 연방의 일원으로 독립하였고 국호도 '실론'에서 현재의 국호로 변경하였다. 1972년, 공식 국호를 "스리랑카 자유 주권 독립 공화국"로 변경하였다. 1978년에도 "스리랑카 민주 사회주의 공화국"으로 변경하였다.실론(Ceylon)이라는 이름은 지금도 많이 쓰인다. 지리적으로 인도 아래에 위치해 '인도의 눈물'이라는 별칭으로 불리기도 한다.

Sri Lanka  is an island country in South Asia, located in the Indian Ocean  to the southwest of the Bay of Bengal and to the southeast of the Arabian Sea. It is separated from the Indian subcontinent by the Gulf of Mannar and the Palk Strait. The legislative capital, Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte, is a suburb of the commercial capital and largest city, Colombo. Sri Lanka's documented history spans 3,000 years, with evidence of pre-historic human settlements dating back to at least 125,000 years. 

スリランカ民主社会主義共和国は、南アジアのインド亜大陸の南東にポーク海峡を隔てて位置する共和制国家。首都はスリジャヤワルダナプラコッテ。1948年2月4日、イギリスから自治領（英連邦王国）のセイロンとして独立。1972年にはスリランカ共和国に改称し、英連邦内の共和国となり、1978年から現在の国名となった。人口は約2120万（2016年）である。島国で、現在もこの国が占める主たる島をセイロン島と呼ぶ。国名をスリランカに改称したシリマヴォ・バンダラナイケは世界初の女性首相である。また、国民の7割が仏教徒（上座部仏教）である。
