아프리카 레소토 국왕 방문

레소토 왕국. 남아프리카 공화국 영토에 둘러싸여 있는 나라로, 수도는 마세루이다. 국명 "레소토"는 소토어로 "소토족의 나라"를 뜻한다.

1868년 영국의 보호령이 되었으며 남아프리카 공화국이 통일하자는 요구를 거부하고 1966년에 영국 연방 내의 자치 국가로 독립했다. 한 때 국왕 레치에 3세가 쫓겨나기도 했지만 쿠데타가 일어나 1993년에 복수 정당제 하에서 총선거를 실시하였고, 1995년 1월 레치에 3세가 복위했다.

Lesotho is an enclaved, landlocked country in southern Africa completely surrounded by South Africa. It is just over 30,000 km2 (11,583 sq mi) in size and has a population slightly over two million.Its capital and largest city is Maseru. Lesotho is a member of the United Nations, the Commonwealth of Nations and the Southern African Development Community (SADC). The name Lesotho translates roughly into the land of the people who speak Sesotho.About 40% of the population lives below the international poverty line of US $1.25 a day.

レソト王国通称レソトは、アフリカ南部に位置する立憲君主制をとる国家。イギリス連邦加盟国のひとつで、周囲を南アフリカ共和国に囲まれた世界最南の内陸国でもある。首都はマセルで、1966年にイギリスから独立した。非同盟中立を宣言している。
