일본은 기독교. 가톨릭, 불교 관계없이 집에 조상을 모시는 영정 부츠단이 있다. 일반 가정에는 불교 사원에서나 볼 수 있는 작은 예배 시설과도 같다. 사찰에 다니는 사람은 부처님을 모시고 가톨릭은 성모 마리아를 모시기도 한다. 거기에 죽은 조상, 가족의 위패가 있으며 부츠단은 금 부츠단에서 여러 나무로 제작한 부츠단이 많다. 이런 모습을 보고 미신이니 함부로 말하기엔 너무나 경건하고 엄숙한 모습들이 많다. 매일 조상이나 부모. 죽은 가족에게 향을 피우고 인사하는 모습은 좋은 모습이라 생각한다.

仏壇（ぶつだん）とは、日本において、一般家屋の中に常設された、仏教の礼拝施設である。仏教寺院において本尊を祀る須弥壇（内陣）を小型化したものであり、一般家庭においては、先祖や家族の死者の位牌を安置する場となっている. 内部は仏教各宗派の本山寺院の仏堂を模した豪華な作りになっている。大きく分類する場合は、金仏壇・唐木仏壇・家具調仏壇に分けられる.広義には、仏を祀る壇全般を指し、寺院の仏堂において仏像を安置する壇（須弥壇）も含まれるが、現代日本語で「仏壇」と言えば、通常上記のように家庭内に安置するものを指す。広義の仏壇と特に区別するため、仏壇のことを「御内仏（おないぶつ）」とも言う.
