프리메이슨리(영어: Freemasonry, "자유 석공 모임"이라는 뜻)는 16세기 말에서 17세기 초에 발생한 인도주의적 박애주의를 지향하는 우애단체(fraternity: 친목단체) 혹은 취미 클럽이다. 프리메이슨은 오늘날 전 세계 곳곳에 여러 형태로 존재하며, 스코틀랜드 그랜드 롯지와 아일랜드 그랜드 롯지 관할하에 약 15만명, 영국 연합 그랜드 롯지 관할하에 약 25만명 등 영국과 아일랜드에 약 4십만명이 있고, 미국에 약 2백만 명이 있는 등, 전 세계적으로 약 6백만 명의 회원이 있는 것으로 추정되고 있다. 프리메이슨 조직은 그랜드 롯지(Grand Lodge)를 중심으로 하위 롯지, 즉 단위 롯지(Constituent Lodge)들을 편성해 각 그랜드 롯지별로 독자적 관할권을 가지고 자치적으로 운영한다. 따라서 전 세계의 프리메이슨을 통괄하여 관할하는 프리메이슨 총본부는 존재하지 않는다. 그랜드 롯지의 문자 그대로의 의미는 "커다란 집 또는 집회소"로 "본부"를 뜻하며, 대롯지라고도 한다. 그랜드 롯지는 또한 그랜드 오리엔트(Grand Orient: 프랑스어 발음으로 "그랑토리앙"이라고도 하며, 문자 그대로의 의미는 "커다란 서광")라고도 한다. 단위 롯지는 메이스닉 롯지(Masonic Lodge)라고도 하며, 흔히 간단히 롯지라고도 한다. 우호 관계에 있는 그랜드 롯지간에는 회원들이 상대의 관할구를 방문할 수 있다.프리메이슨의 심볼 가운데 하나. 컴퍼스와 자는 일찍이 이 조직이 석공 길드였단 것을 말해준다. 오름새 삼각형(컴퍼스)와 하향 삼각형(직각자)이 결합해 형성된 다윗의 별은 남자와 여자, 하늘과 땅, 정신과 물질, 빛과 어둠 등 세계의 이원성의 융화를 표현하고 있다. 중앙의 ‘G’는 히브리어로 하나라는 뜻의 기멜(Gimel)로 우리는 하나라는 뜻이며 또는 지고적 존재, 곧 신(GOD)과 기하학(geometry)을 의미한다. 또한 프리메이슨을 상징하는 건축도구는 각각 인간의 미덕과 대응해 컴퍼스는 진리, 직각자는 도덕, 흙손은 결속과 우애, 몽둥이는 지식이나 지혜를 상징하고 있다. 여기서 신은 하나님이 아니다.
Freemasonry or Masonry consists of fraternal organisations that trace their origins to the local fraternities of stonemasons, which from the end of the fourteenth century regulated the qualifications of stonemasons and their interaction with authorities and clients. The degrees of freemasonry retain the three grades of medieval craft guilds, those of Apprentice, Journeyman or fellow and Master Mason. These are the degrees offered by Craft Freemasonry. Members of these organisations are known as Freemasons or Masons. There are additional degrees, which vary with locality and jurisdiction, and are usually administered by different bodies than the craft degrees.
The basic, local organisational unit of Freemasonry is the Lodge. The Lodges are usually supervised and governed at the regional level (usually coterminous with either a state, province, or national border) by a Grand Lodge or Grand Orient. There is no international, worldwide Grand Lodge that supervises all of Freemasonry; each Grand Lodge is independent, and they do not necessarily recognise each other as being legitimate.
Candidates for Freemasonry will have met most active members of the Lodge they are joining before they are initiated. The process varies between jurisdictions, but the candidate will typically have been introduced by a friend at a Lodge social function, or at some form of open evening in the Lodge. In modern times, interested people often track down a local Lodge through the Internet. The onus is on candidates to ask to join; while candidates may be encouraged to ask, they are never invited. Once the initial inquiry is made, an interview usually follows to determine the candidate's suitability. If the candidate decides to proceed from here, the Lodge ballots on the application before he (or she, depending on the Masonic Jurisdiction) can be accepted.

基本階級は必ず正規の参入儀礼を必要とするが、上位階級は4、9、12-14、18、22、28-33階級は正規の参入儀礼で、それ以外は「通達」により昇級が行われるという.33階級の上にさらに3階級を付け加えられているとする説もある.
