프로 레슬링

프로레슬링은 원래 레슬링 선수가 대전료를 받고 출전하여 경기하는 모든 레슬링의 총칭이나, 최근에 이르러서는 특히 미리 승패가 결정된 상태에서 레슬러들이 가상의 격투를 벌이는 일종의 공연 예술을 가리키는 말이다. 이른바 프로레스라고 불리는 일본의 프로레슬링은 현재 WWE에 의해 주도되고 있는 미국의 엔터테인먼트 스타일과 다른 스트롱 스타일을 중심으로 하고 있다. 스트롱 스타일은 실제 여러 격투기에서 볼 수 있는 기술들을 차용하는 한편, 타격기는 좀 더 강력하고 거칠게 사용하는 경기 방식이다. 따라서 일본의 프로레슬링 경기는 미국의 경기들보다 훨씬 더 사실적이다. 스트롱 스타일이라는 말은 안토니오 이노키에게서 나왔다. 또 다른 레슬러인 자이언트 바바의 "왕도" 스타일 은 접수의 미학 으로 불리며 기술을 사용함에 있어 고각,수직낙하식 등에 고위험군 기술을 거침없이 사용하는 스타일이다. 두 선수의 스승이자 일본 프로레스의 기원으로 불리는 사람이 바로 역도산이다.

Professional wrestling (often shortened to pro wrestling or simply wrestling) is a form of sports entertainmentand performance art which combines athletics with theatrical performance. It takes the form of events, held by touring companies, which mimic a title match combat sport. The unique form of sport portrayed is fundamentally based on classical and "catch" wrestling, with modern additions of striking attacks, strength-based holds and throws and acrobatic maneuvers, much of these derive from the influence of various international martial arts. An additional aspect of combat with improvised weaponry is sometimes included to varying degrees.The matches have predetermined outcomes to heighten entertainment value and all combative maneuvers are executed with the full cooperation of those involved and carefully performed in specific manners intended to lessen the chance of actual injury.

プロレスは、リング上で主に観客へ見せることを目的とした攻防を展開する、格闘技を基本としたスポーツのことである。もしくは、その試合を複数展開することにより開催される興行のことである。正式名称はプロフェッショナルレスリング（Professional Wrestling）、興行レスリング、職業レスリングとも呼ばれる 古くは西洋相撲（角力）と呼ばれた.アメリカなどの国では単にレスリングと呼ばれることも多い。メキシコではルチャリブレ、ヨーロッパではキャッチと呼ばれる。試合は打撃、投げ技、関節技、時には凶器などを用いて行われて試合において闘う者をプロレスラーもしくはレスラーと呼ぶ。アメリカ、メキシコ、日本などにおいて歴史があり複数のプロレス団体を有しており全国各地で興行が連日行われている。プロレス興行がない国においてもテレビとインターネットを通じて世界中の人にも楽しまれている。
