케냐 독립 기념일

 세계의 케냐인들은 12월 12일을 기념하는 두가지 이유를 가지고 있다.

1963년에 케냐는 독립 국가가 되었다. 정확히 일년 후에, 그것은 공화국이나 잠무리로 영연방에 받아들여졌다. 이러한 이유로, 12월 12일은 독립기념일로 알려져 있다. 의전 행사는 전통적인 문화를 보여 주는 퍼레이드와 춤을 추는 것 외에도 전통적으로 나이로비의 수도인 니야오 스타디움에서 대통령 연설을 포함하고 있다. 집과 해외에 있는 케냐인들은 화려한 키르케이와 키스를 하고, 우갈리(유명한 옥수수 빵)와 우리오(콩과 완두 콩)를 먹는다.

Kenyans across the world have double the reason to celebrate December 12th.
On this day in 1963, Kenya became an independent country. Exactly one year later, it was admitted into the Commonwealth as a republic or Jamhuri (Swahili for ‘republic’). For this reason, December 12th is known as Independence Day and also as Jamhuri Day.  
Celebrations traditionally include a presidential speech at Nyayo Stadium in the capital city of Nairobi, in addition to parades and dances showcasing the country’s unique culture. Kenyans at home and abroad dress in colorful kikoys and kitenges, and feast on ugali (a popular cornmeal dish) and irio (a homey mash of potatoes and peas).Today’s Doodle depicts the majestic Mount Kenya against the colors of the nation’s flag, which itself tells the story of Kenya’s journey to freedom. Black, red and green, along with the shield and spears of the Maasai warrior, represent the people, their fight for independence, and the country’s vast natural resources. Together, the mountain and the flag symbolize Kenya’s strength and resilience on this important day.Hongera Kenya! Happy Independence Day!
