明治42年築；横浜市内唯一現存する明治時代の木造西洋館

요코하마 중구 야마테는 메이지 32년 외국인 거주지로 정착하여 요코하마 대표적 고급 주택가다. 이제는 100채 정도 엄선하여 지역과 주변을 위하여 개방하고 있으며 모든 주택은 외국인들이 떠나면서 요코하마에 기부한 것으로 카페, 갤러리, 역사관 등으로 보존하고 있다.

Yamate is the name of a historic neighbourhood in Naka-ku, Yokohama often referred to in English as The Bluff. The neighbourhood is famous as having been a foreigners' residential area in the Bakumatsu, Meiji and Taisho periods. The neighborhood still maintains a reputation as an exclusive residential district today, along with the Motomachi neighborhood located at the foot of the Yamate hill.

山手は神奈川県横浜市中区にある、山手町とその外縁部を含む一帯で、幕末から明治32年まで外国人居留地であった。

横浜を代表する商店街の1つである元町の南側の高台で、高級住宅街、観光地として有名で都市景観100選に選定されている。狭義には中区山手町（やまてちょう）をいうが、その周辺の高台（本牧地区の北西側、山手駅付近及び根岸森林公園周辺まで）を含めることもある.
