몰타 유니온 클럽

몰타는 회원제 클럽이 많다. 이곳도 회원제인데

주로 테니스, 당구, 포켓볼, 카드, 마작 등 

다양하게 즐길 거리가 많은 클럽이다.

라이온스 클럽이 5월 프랑스 방문을 위한 모임을 가졌다.

연령들이 높아 필자는 생각 중이다. 재미없을 느낌이다.

 

몰타 연합 클럽은 발레타의 Republic Street로 이름이 변경된 이후

 Strada Reale에 있는 Auberge de Provence의 연회장을 제외한

 최상층을 차지한 몰타에서 복무하는 영국 장교와 민간인에 의해 1826년에 설립되었다.

처음에는 회원 자격이 80명의 유료 회원과 소수의 명예 회원으로 제한되었다.

회원에게는 ₤4의 입장료와 £1의 분기별 구독료가 부과되었다.

최초의 명예 회원 중에는 Walter Scott 경,

Benjamin Disraeli 및 William Makepeace Thackeray가 있다.

1846년에는 유료 회원 수가 150명으로 늘어났다.

Auberge de Provence의 혼잡한 환경을 고려하여

위원회는 Msida에 있는 Casolani의 양어장 근처에 지점을 열기로 결정했다.

클럽이 Auberge의 1층을 인수한 것은 1851년이 되어서였다.

1862년 1층을 획득한 후 위원회는 회원 수를 100명으로 늘리기로 결정했다.

1903년 1월 클럽은 99년 동안 폐기종이라는 이름으로 건물 전체를 인수했다.

 

클럽은 2개의 야외 테니스 코트, 2개의 스쿼시 코트를 운영하고 있으며

 Marsa Sports Club, Tigne` Bathing Beach와 연계되어 있다.

클럽은 매일 스낵을 제공하는 바와 레스토랑을 운영하고 있으며,

목요일과 일요일 점심에는 카레 점심을 제공한다.

영국 주민 협회, 조지 크로스 아일랜드 협회,

코로나 소사이어티 등 여러 조직이 클럽에서 회의와 일부 기능을 개최한다.
클럽은 유럽 및 영연방의 유사한 클럽(주거용 및 기타)과 여러 가지 상호 협정을 맺고 있다.

 

영국 연방국가들이 주로 클럽이라는 이름으로 맴버쉽을 운영한다.

일년간 일정 회비를 내고 그 클럽을 사용하는데 귀족들이 남긴 습관이다.

하지만 지금은 클럽의 위상은 그다지 높지 않으며 대부분 낡은 건물이다.

필자는 호텔 맴버쉽이 좋다는 생각은 변함이 없다.

 

The Malta Union Club was founded in 1826 by British officers 

and civilians serving in Malta who took the top floor less

 the ballroom of the Auberge de Provence, in the Strada Reale since re-named Republic Street in Valletta. Initially, membership was restricted

 to eighty paying members and a few honorary members. Members were charged 

an entrance fee of ₤4 and a quarterly subscription of £1. 

Among the first Honorary Members one finds Sir Walter Scott, 

Benjamin Disraeli and William Makepeace Thackeray.

In 1846 the number of paying members was increased to a hundred and fifty. 

In view of the crowded environment at the Auberge de Provence the Committee decided

 to open a branch in the country in the vicinity of Casolani’s fishponds at Msida 

wherever they were located, It was not until 1851

 that the Club acquired the first floor of the Auberge. 

Following the acquisition of the ground floor in 1862 the Committee decided to

 increase membership to thee hundred. On the 1st. January 1903 the Club

 took over the entire building by title of emphyteusis for ninety nine years.

 

The Club runs two open air tennis courts, two squash courts and in conjunction 

with the Marsa Sports Club, the Tigne` Bathing Beach. 

The Club operates a bar and restaurant that provide snacks on a daily basis, 

offer curry lunches on Thursdays and Sunday lunches.

 Several organizations, such as the British Residents Association, 

The George Cross Island Association, 

The Corona Society and others hold meetings and some of their functions at the Club.
The Club has several reciprocal arrangements in place with similar Clubs

(residential and otherwise) in Europe and the Commonwealth.

 

 

マルタ ユニオン クラブは、バレッタのリパブリック ストリートと改名されて以来、

ストラーダ レアーレにあるオーベルジュ 

ド プロヴァンスのボールルームを除いた最上階を占拠し、

クラブは 99 年間、エンフィテウシスの称号により建物全体を引き継ぎました。

 

クラブには屋外テニス コート 2 面、スカッシュ コート 2 面があり、

マルサ スポーツ クラブとティーニュ海水浴場につながっています。

クラブにはバーとレストランがあり、

毎日の軽食と木曜と日曜のランチにはカレーランチを提供しています。

英国居住者協会、ジョージ クロス アイランド協会、

コロナ協会など、いくつかの組織が会議や一部の行事をクラブで開催しています。
当クラブは、ヨーロッパおよびイギリス連邦の同様のクラブ

（居住クラブおよびその他）と多数の相互協定を結んでいます。
