몰타 대학 역사학 교수 Prof. Yosanne Vella

 

필자가 Prof. Yosanne Vella 인연이 된 것은 로터리 클럽에서

그녀의 프랑스와 몰타 강의를 듣게 된 계기다.

대학은 몰타에서 나오고 석박사는 영국 대학에서 학위를 마친

27년간 몰타 대학 역사 교육학 부교수로 재직중이다. 

지금은 28세가 된 딸의 6세때 편지를 사무실에 간직하고 있었다.

물론 아들의 초등학교 사진도 간직하는 그녀는 매우 감성적 여성이다. 

특히 그녀는 히로시마에서 2달간 몰타의 역사를 가르친 경험과

일본에 좋은 유대관계를 가진 사람이었다. 

 

Yosanne Vella는 몰타대학교 교육학부의 역사 교육학 부교수다.

그녀는 역사 교사 연수생이며 역사 교육에 대한 다양한 주제에 대해 강의한다.

그녀는 최근 호주에서 안식년 휴가를 보내면서

'중등학생들에게 역사의 변화와 연속성을 가르치는 것'과

'이슬람 공포증과 싸우기 위해 역사 교육을 사용하는 것'에 관한

논문을 학부생과 석사생뿐만 아니라 동료 학자들에게 제공했다.

프레젠테이션은 멜버른 대학교, 멜버른 교육 대학원,

빅토리아 대학교 문화 다양성 및 웰빙 센터,

뉴사우스웨일즈의 뉴캐슬 대학교 교육 학부에서 진행되었다.

그녀는 2014년까지 유럽 평의회에서 NGO 교육 및 문화 위원회 부의장을 역임했으며

 유럽 역사 교육자 네트워크인 Euroclio에서 발행한 

온라인 교과서 Historiana의 편집자 중 한 명이다.

Euroclio의 대사. 그녀는 또한 Heirnet의 International History Teaching Journal을

비롯한 여러 저널의 편집 위원이기도 하다.

그녀는 18세기 몰타 여성에 관한 여러 역사 논문뿐만 아니라

역사 교육에 관한 다양한 책, 교과서, 논문 및 교육 자료를 출판했다.

그녀는 Malta History Society와 Maltese History Teachers’ Association의 부회장이다.

몰타에서의 프랑스 통치의 짧은 기간, 또는 오히려 프랑스의 존재는

 그들이 오랫동안 통치하지 않았고

 2년의 대부분을 이곳에서 성벽 뒤에 봉쇄되어 보냈기 때문에 

꽤 잘 문서화되어 있으며 논란의 여지가 있지만 논평되고 재해석된다.
그러나 Yosanne Vella의 저서 옛날 옛적에 1798, 1799, 1800은

전시 조건에서 가능한 한 정상적으로 삶을 살려고 노력하는

개인의 개인적인 경험을 설명하는 삽화의 형태로 자신의 차원을 내러티브로 가져온다.

 

그외 그녀는

과거 몰타 여성의 고정관념을 폭로할 때다.
역사가 Yosanne Vella는 18세기 등록부와 문서에서 발견한 여성은 

Favray가 The Visit에서 묘사한 온순한 여성일 뿐만 아니라

 유급 노동, 자영업에 종사하고 종종 법을 위반하는 여성이라고 말했다.

그녀는 패미니스트이며 여성의 권위는 많이 높아졌다는 것을 강조했다.

 

Yosanne Vella is full  professor in history pedagogy 

in the Faculty of Education at the University of Malta. 

She is a history teacher trainee and she lectures on various topics on history teaching. 

She was recently on sabbatical leave in Australia where she gave papers to undergraduate 

and masters’ students as well as to fellow academics on 'teaching change -Thursday 17 March 2016

and continuity in history to secondary school children' 

and on 'using history teaching to combat Islamophobia'. 

The presentations were given 

at Melbourne Graduate School of Education, University of Melbourne, 

at Victoria University’s Centre for Cultural Diversity 

and Wellbeing and at the Faculty of Education of Newcastle University in New South Wales.

She was the Vice-hair of the Education and Culture Committee of NGOs

at the Council of Europe up to 2014,

she is one of the editors of the online textbook Historiana published by Euroclio,

the European History Educators’ Network, and she is one of Euroclio’s ambassadors.

She is also on the editorial board of a number of journals including

Heirnet’s International History Teaching Journal.

She has published various books, textbooks, papers

and teaching resources on history education,

as well as a number of history papers

on women in Malta in the eighteenth century.

She is the Vice-President of both the Malta History Society

and the Maltese History Teachers’ Association.

The short period of French rule in Malta – or rather French presence, 

because they did not rule for long

 and spent most of their two years here blockaded behind the walls – is quite well-documented and, controversially, commented upon and re-interpreted.
But Yosanne Vella’s book Once upon a time 1798, 1799, 1800 brings to the narrative her

own dimension, in the form of vignettes narrating the personal

experiences of individuals trying to live their lives as normally

as they could under wartime conditions.

Historian Yosanne Vella says the women she finds in 18th century registers 

and documents are not just the gentle women Favray portrays in 

The Visit but women engaged in paid labour, self-employment, and often falling foul of the law.

歴史家のヨサンヌ・ヴェラは、18世紀の登録簿や文書で見つけた女性は、

ファヴレーが『ザ・ビジット』で説明した従順な女性だけでなく、

有償労働や自営業に従事し、

しばしば法律を破る女性たちであると述べています。
