梅まつり-매화 마츠리

에도 시대부터 매화 명소로 많은 서민에게 사랑받아온 유시마 텐진. 1958년 (쇼와 32)년부터 개최된 이 행사는 올해로 58회 째를 맞이 기간 동안 약 40만 명이 방문하는 초봄 도쿄 연중행사로서 정착하고 있다. 경내에는 수령 70 ~ 80년 정도의  매 화 나무를 중심으로 약 300그루가 심어져 있으며, 매년 2월 중순부터 3월 초순이 절정이다. 매화의 종류는 매 7 ~ 8%를 차지한다는 매화 화이트를 중심으로, 또한 화이트의 "달그림자", 매화의 미소 등 이름을 붙이고 있다. 흰매화는 동지 등 이름으로 13가지가 있으며 매화를 보는 즐거움을 느낄 것이다.

江戸時代より「梅の名所」として多くの庶民に親しまれてきた湯島天神。1958（昭和33）年から開催されている同イベントも今年で59回目を迎え、期間中約40万人が訪れる「初春の東京の年中行事」として定着している。　境内には樹齢70～80年程の白梅の木を中心に約300本が植えられており、例年、2月中旬～3月上旬が見頃となる。梅の種類は、梅園の7～8割を占めるという白梅の「白加賀」を中心に、同じく白梅の「月影」、淡紅梅で遅咲きの「豊後（ぶんご）」、紅梅の「寒紅梅」、薄紅梅の「見驚（けんきょう）」、白梅で早咲きの「冬至」など13種類。色とりどりの梅の花を楽しむことができる。

유시마 텐진의 매화는 우에노 공원의 사쿠라 피기 전 축제다.

고대로부터 유시마 텐진은 도쿄의 대표적인  텐만구로 알려져 있다. 학문의 신이 주관하기에 시험 시즌에는 많은 수험생이 합격 기원의 방문이 많다. 특히 보통의 학생부터 수학여행 학생까지 항상 붐비는 곳이다. 경내 매화는 유명한 곳이며 매화 노래로 유시마의 흰매화 1942년 전쟁 중 불러 힛트를 치기도 했다.

Yushima Tenman-gū Shrine (湯島天満宮) is a Shinto shrine in Tokyo, Japan devoted to Tenjin, the Kami of Learning. It is located in the Bunkyo ward of Tokyo, not far from the University of Tokyo, and is a frequent site of prospective students hoping to pass the entrance exams there in April. At this time, the temple receives many offerings of ema votives to petition the kami for success at exams.

Built in 458 for another kami, Ameno-tajikaraono-mikoto (天手力雄命?) of Japanese myth associated with strength and sports, the shrine was then expanded in 1355 to enshrine the kami Tenjin as well. Currently both kami are enshrined at this temple. The shrine was later rebuilt in 1455 at the behest of local warlord Ota Dokan, and enjoyed greater popularity during the Edo Period when it was visited by such Confucian scholars as Hayashi Doshun and Arai Hakuseki. Due to Tenjin's frequent association with plum trees, Yushima Tenmangu maintains an extensive grove of plum trees, and holds a yearly festival called ume matsuri (梅祭り?) in February or March depending on when the trees bloom.

古来より江戸・東京における代表的な天満宮であり、学問の神様として知られる菅原道真公を祀っているため受験シーズンには多数の受験生が合格祈願に訪れるが、普段からも学問成就や修学旅行の学生らで非常な賑わいを見せている。また境内の梅の花も有名で、この地の梅を歌った「湯島の白梅」（1942年）は戦中時の歌として大ヒットした。
