Georgian politician, chairman of National Democratic Party

Graduated from the Law Faculty of St. Petersburg State University. In 1988 he headed the St. Petersburg Georgian Community and was the chairman of the St. Petersburg Georgian Students' Association. He has been a member of the National Democratic Party since 1989. In 1990 he worked as an assistant prosecutor at the St. Petersburg District Attorney's Office.

In 1991 he became the head of the office of NDP Chairman Giorgi Chanturia. Founder and Chairman of the NDP Youth Organization (NED) in 1993. From 1993-1994 he was a member of the Presidium of the National Council of the Youth Organization of Georgia.

In 1996 he became a member of the NDP main committee and the editor of the NDP newspaper Georgian Chronicle. In 1999 he became Secretary of Public Relations of the NDP, and in 2002 Secretary General and member of the Presidium of the Home Committee. Since December 2003 he has been the Chairman of the National Democratic Party.

 

Giorgi Chanturia, the leader of the National Democratic Party, a leader of the National Liberation Movement in Georgia and a dissident under the Soviet empire, was killed by Russian special services in 1994 as a result of political terror. Giorgi Chanturia was a prominent pro-Western leader in Georgia and the National Democratic Party was an influential political force in Georgia.
