마카티는 필리핀의 메트로 마닐라라 불리는 마닐라 수도권에 속하는 도시이다.수도 마닐라의 남동쪽에 위치해, 시티 뱅크, 인텔·필리핀, 마이크로소프트, Nestle등의 기업이 많이 모여, 고층 빌딩군이 늘어선 필리핀의 비즈니스 수도의 자리 매김을 받아 「필리핀의 월가」라고 불리는 부도심이다.아야라 거리(Ayala Avenue) 주변이나, 아야라 센터가 있는 아야라 역앞등이 거리의 중심지. 또 중심에서 조금 떨어진 곳에 있어, 광대한 부지를 가지는 포트 보니파시오는 현재 재개발중이다.

2007년 원래 미국 통치 시대에 개발하고 고층 빌딩이나 쇼핑몰이 집중하는 근처의 땅은 필리핀을 대표하는 부유층의 "아얄라 가문"의 소유이다.
서쪽으로 리틀 도쿄, 파시그 강변에 근년 만들어진 록웰(일본에서 말하면 롯폰기 힐스와 같은 고급 주택과 고급 쇼핑몰의 복합시설)이 있으며 힐 푸얏트 거리(Gil Puyat Avenue) 주변에 있는 벨 에어(Bel-Air)나 에드사(EDSA) 주변에 있는 폴브스 파크(Forbes Park) 등과 함께 고급 주택가의 일각을 이룬다.주택가를 들여다보면 대부분의 집에 수영장이 붙어 일반적인 필리핀 이미지와는 사뭇 다르다.이 마을에 산다는 것은 "부자"를 의미한다.

2007年、元々アメリカ統治時代に開発し、高層ビルやショッピングモールが集中する付近の土地は、フィリピンを代表する裕福層の「アヤラ一族」の所有である。 西にリトル東京、パシッグ川沿いに近年出来たロックウェル（日本で言えば六本木ヒルズのような、高級住宅と高級ショッピングモールの複合施設）があり、ヒル・プヤット通り(Gil Puyat Avenue)周辺にあるベル・エア(Bel-Air)やエドサ(EDSA)周辺にあるフォルブス・パーク(Forbes Park)などと共に高級住宅街の一角をなす。住宅街を覗くと大抵の家にプールが付き、一般的なフィリピンのイメージとは全く違う。この町に住むという事は「金持ち」を意味する。

2015년 조사에서는, 인구 58만 2602명이 국내 제17위의 도시이며 1㎢당 1만 9336명의 인구가 세계에서 가장 인구 밀도가 높은 도시가 되고 있습니다. 인구는 불과 50만명이지만, 낮 인구는 전형적인 근무일 중 100만명 이상으로 추산된다.왜냐하면, 일이나 쇼핑, 장사를 하는 사람이 많이 있기 때문이다. 교통은 주로 러시아워나 홀리데이 시즌에 예상. 10년 전이나 지금이나 클락숀소리, 자동차 정체 변함이 없다.

According to the 2015 census, it has a population of 582,602 people making it as the 17th-largest city in the country and ranked as the 41st most densely populated city in the world with 19,336 inhabitants per square kilometer. Although its population is just half a million, the daytime population of the city is estimated to be more than one million during a typical working day because of the large number of people who go to the city to work, shop, and do business. Traffic is expected mostly during rush hour and holiday seasons.

아얄라랜드와 마카티 관광재단은 마카티의 예술문화 목적지로서의 가시성을 높이기 위해 1년 동안 '메이크 잇 해펜, 마카티 만들기' 캠페인을 시작했다. 이 캠페인은 아얄라가 2011년에 시작되어 비즈니스, 라이프스타일, 엔터테인먼트 및 교통을 위한 6개의 뚜렷한 중심지로 나누었던 마카티를 위한 15억 달러 규모의 재개발 마스터플랜의 일환이다.

Ayala Land and the Makati Tourism Foundation launched a year-long campaign titled "Make It Happen, Make it Makati" to increase Makati's visibility as an arts and culture destination. The campaign is part of Ayala's ongoing US$1.5 billion redevelopment masterplan for Makati, which began in 2011 and divides the city into six distinct hubs for business, lifestyle, entertainment and transport.

In 2013, Ayala Land unveiled its plans for a P20-billion project that will transform the old Sta. Ana race track into a mixed-use development, featuring entertainment and sports facilities. It will sit on a 21-hectare property - the last available sprawling landbank in Makati and will be dubbed as "Circuit Makati" in honor of the Sta. Ana race track, which is part of Makati's heritage as a former racing circuit. There will be a FIFA-sized football turf which will be used for games and for football workshops. It will feature a 2-hectare open-air events ground, which can accommodate up to 20,000 people. It will have links to the Makati central business district (CBD) through Ayala Avenue Extension and South Avenue, other future road linkages or potentially even a revived Pasig River ferry service.

마카티 거리의 이름은 기부자의 이름이다.
예를 들어 댈라 로사는 1천만 엔 즉 1억을 기부했다. 다른 사람이 꼭 이름을 바꾸고자 한다면 1억을 돌려주고

더 많은 돈을 지급해야 한다. 결국 마카티의 거리 이름은 기부한 사람의 이름이다. 물론 과거 지명도 남아있다.
