Gifted to her as a personal gift by her husband, Prince Philip, in 1996,

 the Scarab Brooch carries a very special meaning to Her Majesty.

 She wore the gold, ruby and diamond piece during her and Philip's official platinum anniversary portrait.

Just like the New Zealand Silver Fern Brooch, the Maple Leaf Brooch is Her Majesty's way of subtly paying tribute to Canada. The diamond, platinum-et piece was first gifted to the Queen Mother by King George VI ahead of their state visit to Canada, according to Ella Kay. Since then, the Queen, Kate Middleton and Camilla Parker-Bowles have been seen wearing it at Canadian events.

Featuring a stone from the famed Cullinan diamond collection, the heart-shaped Cullinan V brooch was originally worn by Queen Mary and was part of a jewellery set made for the Delhi Durbar in 1911.

The Crown Jewels are worn only at coronations (St Edward's Crown being used to crown the monarch)

 and the annual State Opening of Parliament (the Imperial State Crown). 

At other formal occasions, such as banquets, Elizabeth II wore the jewellery in her collection. 

She owned more than 300 items of jewellery, including 98 brooches, 46 necklaces, 

37 bracelets, 34 pairs of earrings, 15 rings, 14 watches and 5 pendants.

 

Brooches, despite being amongst the most beautiful and often intricate designs of all jewelry, are

 also often the most underrated. They rarely come as any part of a matching set, 

and so tend to be something of an afterthought when dressing. 

But, assuming you treasure your brooches (and why wouldn’t you?!), 

is there a right and wrong way to wear them?
The wearing of a brooch on the left is an historic tradition, but it is unclear where this custom originated.

 Romantics tell us that a brooch is to be given by a lover and is then to be worn over the heart 

and, whilst we like that explanation, it’s probably more reasonable to think

that it was a practical choice based on the clothing being worn.
