수국은  일본 태생인 하이드란게과과에 속하는 꽃식물 종이다. 여름과 가을에 분홍 또는 푸른 꽃의 큰 머리를 가진 가로 2m, 세로 2.5m(8ft)까지 자라는 낙엽관목이다.흔한 이름으로는 큰 잎 수국, 프랑스 수국, 레이스캡 수국, 걸레머리 수국, 페니 맥, 호텐시아 등이 있다. 그것은 기후가 다른 세계의 많은 지역에서 널리 재배되고 있다. 수국은 H. 아스페라 '마크로피엘라'와 혼동되어서는 안 된다.

Hydrangea macrophylla is a species of flowering plant in the family Hydrangeaceae, native to Japan. It is a deciduous shrub growing to 2 m (7 ft) tall by 2.5 m (8 ft) broad with large heads of pink or blue flowers in summer and autumn.Common names include bigleaf hydrangea, French hydrangea, lacecap hydrangea, mophead hydrangea, penny mac and hortensia. It is widely cultivated in many parts of the world in many climates. It is not to be confused with H. aspera 'Macrophylla'

アジサイは、アジサイ科アジサイ属の落葉低木の一種である。広義には

「アジサイ」の名はアジサイ属植物の一部の総称でもある.原種は日本に自生するガクアジサイ H. macrophylla f. normalis である。

6월부터 7월까지 꽃, 백색, 청색, 보라 색 또는 적색의 이 크게 발달한 장식화를 가진다.각 수국은  원예의 액자꽃"이라고 불린다.

일본, 유럽, 미국 등에서 관상용으로 널리 재배되어 많은 품종이 만들어지고 있다.

원산지는 일본에서, 유럽에서 품종 개량된 것은 서양 수국이라고 불린다. 꽃말은 참을성 있는 애정 .단란 가족의 결합 등.

6月から7月にかけて開花し、白、青、紫または赤色の萼（がく）が大きく発達した装飾花をもつ。ガクアジサイではこれが花序の周辺部を縁取るように並び、園芸では「額咲き」と呼ばれる。ガクアジサイから変化し、花序が球形ですべて装飾花となったアジサイは、「手まり咲き」と呼ばれる。日本、ヨーロッパ、アメリカなどで観賞用に広く栽培され、多くの品種が作り出されている。原産地は日本で、ヨーロッパで品種改良されたものはセイヨウアジサイと呼ばれる。 花言葉は「辛抱強い愛情」「一家団欒」「家族の結びつき」など。
