몰타 Marsaskala

고고학자들은 마르사스칼라 주변에서 로마인 정착지의 증거를 발견했지만

 이 지역은 최근까지 사람이 거의 살지 않았다.

천연 항구는 침략자들이 쉽게 접근할 수 있었기 때문에

사람들은 그 지역에 정착하는 것을 두려워했던 것 같다.

불과 100년 전만 해도 이 지역에는 몇 채의 거주지가 없었으며

이들은 소유주에 의해 요새화되었다.
이 지역에는 약 12,000명의 주민이 거주하고 있지만

Mellieħa와 마찬가지로 현지인(여름 거주지가 있음)과

관광객이 여름철에 머물기에 인기 있는 곳이다.

그러나 Marsaskala는 결코 관광 핫스팟이 아니며

연중 그 시기에 여전히 상대적으로 조용하다.

 

Although archaeologists found evidence of Roman settlements around Marsaskala,

 the area remained largely unpopulated until recent times. 

It seems that since the natural harbour was easily accessible by invaders, 

people were afraid of settling in the area. Just a hundred years ago, 

there were only a handful of residences in the area, 

and these were fortified by their owners.

The locality is home to around 12,000 inhabitants although, 

similarly to Mellieħa, it’s a popular location to stay during the summer months

 for locals (having summer residences there) as well as tourists.

 Having said that, Marsaskala is by no means a tourist hotspot

 and still relatively quiet at that time of year still.

天然の港は侵略者が簡単にアクセスできるため、

地元住民 (夏の別荘もあります) や観光客が夏の間滞在する人気の場所です。

ただし、マルサスカーラは決して観光地ではなく、この時期でもまだ比較的静かです。
