필자는 스페인, 이탈리아 일주를 했기에 나름 잘 아는 나라다.
이번 몰타 대학에서 열린 스페인과 영국의 역사와 시인을
연구한 내용을 발표하였다.
많은 교수와 학생이 참석하여 영국의 역사 중에 스페인이
있다는 것을 알게 된다. 스페인 왕과 여왕이 결혼했고
잘 알다시피 엘리자벳의 남편인 필립 공은 그리스 출신이다.
Charles V Lectures는 스페인 및 라틴 아메리카학과와
스페인 대사관이 후원하는 첫 번째 명예 강의 시리즈다.

이 강의에서 Walker 교수는
메리 튜더 왕비와 스페인의 필립 왕자(미래의 왕 필립 2세) 사이의
논란이 되고 있는 결혼과 그것이 굳건히 하고자 했던
영국과 스페인 간의 동맹에 대해 고찰
. 존 헤이우드(John Heywood)와 니콜라우스 마메라누스(Nicolaus Mameranus)가
결혼을 축하하기 위해 쓴 시에 대한 토론을 통해
워커 교수는 호의적인 관찰자들이 결혼에서 따르기를
바라는 것과 결혼에 대해 두려워하는 것 모두에 대해 논의했다.
그의 분석은 또한 칭찬의 시가 수신자에게
미묘한 조언을 제공하는 데 어떻게 사용될 수 있는지 보여다.

by the Department of Spanish & Latin American Studies and the Embassy of Spain

Followed by a drinks reception courtesy of the Embassy of Spain.
In this lecture Professor Walker will reflect
on the controversial marriage between Queen Mary Tudor
and Prince Philip of Spain (the future King Philip II),
and the alliance between England and Spain it was intended to cement.
Through a discussion of the poems that John Heywood and Nicolaus Mameranus wrote to
celebrate the marriage, Professor Walker will discuss both
what sympathetic observers hoped would follow from the marriage
and what they feared about it. His analysis held also demonstrate
how poems of praise may be used to offer subtle advice to their recipients

この講義では、ウォーカー教授が、
物議を醸しているメアリー・チューダー女王とスペインのフィリップ王子
（将来のフェリペ2世）との結婚と、
それによってイングランドとスペインの間で強化しようとした同盟について考察します。
ウォーカー教授は、ジョン・ヘイウッドとニコラウス・マメラヌスが
