컬럼비아 대학교는 미국 뉴욕 주 뉴욕 시에 있는 아이비 리그 사립 대학이다.

Columbia University established in 1754, is a private Ivy League research university 

in Upper Manhattan, New York City. Columbia contains the oldest college in the state of New York 

and is the fifth chartered institution of higher learning in the United States, 

making it one of nine colonial colleges founded prior to the Declaration of Independence

 It was established as King's College by royal charter of George II of Great Britain 

and renamed Columbia College in 1784 following the American Revolutionary War. 

The college has produced numerous distinguished alumni. It has additionally been amongst the most selective 

colleges in the United States since its founding. With an undergraduate acceptance rate of 5.8%, 

it currently stands as the third most selective college in the United States

 and second most selective college in the Ivy League.

The university has graduated many notable alumni. As of 2017, alumni 

and affiliates include 5 Founding Fathers of the United States – 

amongst these an author of the Declaration of Independence 

and an author of the United States Constitution; 10 Justices of the United States Supreme Court 

95 Nobel laureates; 20 living billionaires. 123 Pulitzer Prize winners; 39 Academy Award winners.3 

United States Presidents29 heads of state; 101 National Academy members.77 National Medal of Science winners;

 and 23 National Humanities Medal recipients.

詩編36編9節（Psalm 36:9）の"in thy light shall we see light"

（我らは汝の光によりて光を見ん。）を元にしている。

世界屈指の名門大学としてノーベル賞受賞者を101名輩出するなど全世界から

多くの優秀な研究者、留学生が集まっている。卒業生はあらゆる分野の第一線で活躍しており、

これまで34名の各国の大統領・首相や28名のアカデミー賞受賞者等を輩出している。

最近の著名な卒業生は米第44代大統領バラク・オバマ。大学のモットーは、
